Dear Parent/Guardian,
I would like to wish you a very warm welcome to our group. I would also like to thank you for taking time to look at our welcome pack. Hopefully this page explains everything you need to know about the 27th Rotherham (Woodsetts) Scout Group.
All the information you need is below and will be regularly updated as often as it needs to be. If this page doesn’t help with all the information and you still have questions then please reach out to one of our amazing volunteers who will be happy to help.
What Is Scouting?
Scouts are do-ers and give-it-a-go-ers. Yes, we go camping, hiking, swimming, abseiling, cycling and canoeing.
But, we also get to hang out with our friends every week – having fun, playing games, working in a team and taking on new challenges.
Every week we give over 50 4-25 year olds the skills they need for school, college, university, the job interview, the important speech, the tricky challenge and the big dreams: the skills they need for life.
Everyone’s welcome here. All genders, races and backgrounds. Regardless of your young person’s physical ability – there’s a Scout adventure out there waiting for them. And we’ll help them find it.

Uniform
Our uniform consists of a sweatshirt or shirt/blouse, which you can sew some of your badges onto, and a coloured scarf or ‘necker’ to represent your local group. There are lots of other optional uniform and accessories you can wear, such as hats, hoodies, trousers or shorts.
We ask for your young person to have their sweatshirt or shirt/bloud within the first 4 weeks of starting. We may have a second hand one in stock but if not we recommend going to Hesley Wood in Sheffield as all fund raised there stay in Scouting for South Yorkshire.
When your young person is invested they will receive a necker, woggle and their first set of badges. If these are lost then a replacement must be purchased at the same it costs the group.
Costs
Currently we charge our Sub at £40 per full school term (January to Easter, Easter to July and September until December) which works out at £120 a year. Our subs are used to pay for the insurance and the use of facilities throughout the district and county.
We put on activities throughout the year which will have extra costs such as Camps, Fun Days, BBQ’s, Trips to the cinema and so much more!
If you are in a situation where funds are tight then as a group we will try our best to help you at as Scouting is for everyone no matter what the situations. Please speak to the section leader or group lead volunteer who will help out.
The group also claims money back through gift aid. Once a year we will contact new parents to see if they are eligble for gift aid to allow the group to claim money back from the government.

Behaviour
We want everyone to have fun at our group. We expect all our young people to follow the rules laid out by the leaders and fellow young people for their safety and the enjoyment of other the young people. At least once a year all the young people will come up with a code of conduct that they must follow.
We treat all young people fairly and consistently and apply our code of conduct with them.
